If your dog has recently been itching their skin all all the time, you need to take your dog into the vet so that your vet can investigate what is going on with your dog. Here are three reasons why your dog's skin may be feeling irritated.

#1 Food Allergies

Just like humans, dogs can get food allergies as well. If you have recently change out the food that you feed your dog, you may want to compare the ingredient list to the food that you were previously feeding your dog and see if your new dog food contains any new ingredients. To help your dog out, all you may need to do is switch your dog back to their old food or find a new food that doesn't contain any triggers for your dog. By reducing your dog's exposure to the food that gives them allergies, you should be able to provide your dog with a break from their itchy skin.

#2 Contact Dermatitis

Some dogs just have sensitive skin. If your dog has really sensitive skin, it can become irritated by exposure to everyday items. Common things that can irritate a dog's skin who has contact dermatitis include grass, pollen, perfumes, and soaps.

If you think that your dog has contact dermatitis, you are going to need to try and figure out what causes this reaction within your dog. You may need to change the shampoo that you use to wash your dog and see if this reduces how frequently they itch their skin. If that doesn't do the trick, you may need to change the items that you use to clean your carpet; the residue from that may be irritating your dog's skin. You are going to need to work with your vet to rule out what may be causing your dog's issues. The key is to limit your dog's exposure to problem items.

#3 Flea Bites

Finally, one of the most common reasons that a dog's skin starts to itch is because they have become infected with fleas. Flea bites are so irritating to dogs because when a flea bites them, it leaves behind its salvia. The salvia that the flea leaves behind causes an allergic reaction in many dogs, which then causes their skin to itch.

The best way to deal with this is to treat the fleas on your dog. To start with, you'll want to bath your dog with flea removal soap. Then you'll want to get flea prevention medication from your vet for your dog to help them fight off any additional fleas that they encounter. Finally, you'll need to clean your house to get rid of any fleas that are still hiding around inside of your house.
